When we got through that minor hassle, the rep was knowledgeable and helpful. There are other advantages to Xfinity Home including the ability to arm and disarm the system—or glance at a feed from security cameras—using your television’s Voice Remote. Overall, we found Xfinity’s monthly monitoring costs to be on par with the industry average. But keep in mind, you’re required to sign a two-year contract, which we never like to see. The Arlo Home Security System comes with two Arlo Ultra 2 Spotlight Cameras, a cellular and battery backup and an all-in-one sensor.

A couple of things we don’t like about Xfinity are the required two-year contracts and no options for do-it-yourself installation. But all in all, if you’re searching for straightforward packages and monitoring plans that won’t drain your bank account, then Xfinity Home might be a good fit for you. While it’s not cheap, $50 per month is a decent deal for total home protection, plus smart home automation and advanced video options. Brands like Vivint and ADT charge about $60 per month for similar monitoring plans.
Does Xfinity security need WiFi?
Working with a large national media-services company is a different proposition than getting home security from a firm that strictly focuses on home security. Xfinity Home could be the ideal security choice if family members do not have a smartphone or prefer not to use one. They can use the television remote to see camera feeds and arm or disarm the system. However, Xfinity sells and supports Sengled smart lightbulbs that couldn’t be any easier to connect.
If you need to reboot the device, remove the battery for at least 5 seconds, then re-insert the battery. Active ultrasonic sensors emit ultrasonic sound waves at a frequency above the range of human hearing. These waves bounce off objects in the immediate vicinity and return to the motion sensor. A transducer within the sensor acts as a waypoint for the signal—it sends the pulse and receives the echo. The touchscreen's icons and fonts are large, bold, and a bit outdated. But we came to appreciate the screen’s simplicity and easy visibility.

Before Xfinity showed up, our test home already had a Nest thermostat, Kwikset smart lock, and a Philips Hue gateway device for controlling a few lightbulbs. Xfinity technicians do not install any of these smart-home devices. It took a few tries over a few days to get the Philips Hue lightbulbs connected with Xfinity Home, a problem the technician knew about when installing the system but did not help resolve. Xfinity Home security system is installed by a trained technician. The professional installation comes with a variety of advantages and extras.
It’s called Xfinity Home — and from our research and testing, these intelligent systems provide total home protection and smart home automation. While it’s not exactly cheap, their packages and plans are straightforward and easy to understand. Best of all, Xfinity offers deals if you bundle their other services with home security. We strongly suggest making a detailed list of desired devices and making sure they are included in the order before an Xfinity technician arrives. The technician also plugged in a Wi-Fi “pod” manufactured by Plume (a provider of home-based Wi-Fi mesh equipment and services).
The little pods plug into an outlet and automatically sync with the Xfinity modem to increase the reliability of system communications. Xfinity Home is compatible with the myQ Garage remote controls by Chamberlain. Connect your Chamberlain garage door opener to your Xfinity Home system to control it from afar. Using the Xfinity app, you can see if you have left your garage door open, or you can open it for your kids when they come home from school. Various types of disaster and environmental protection are available from Xfinity. With the purchase of optional equipment, Xfinity Home can monitor for smoke, fire, and carbon monoxide poisoning.
